What are Cascarones?
Cascarones are hollow egg shells, filled with confetti, meant to be thrown or broken over someone's head, making confetti scatter everywhere! Cascarones were popular in Mexico, and have recently regained popularily in South Texas. They are used for many different occasions.

How do you make Cascarones?
Using a pin, carefully make small holes in both ends of a raw egg. Blow into one of the holes, to blow out the contents of the egg. Rinse the eggshell, and let it dry thoroughly.

Make one hole slightly larger, if necessary, and fill the egg shell with confetti. Glue a small piece of tissue paper over each hole, and paint the egg, or decorate it with colored tissue paper, as shown on this card. (Don't dip the egg in liquid dye when it is full of confetti, or you'll have a soggy mess!)

Surprise a friend by breaking one of these eggs over their head! And don't forget to clean up the mess! Have a fun time this Easter!
